Manali,Himachal Pradesh



Manali is a Hill Station.It is nestled in the mountains of the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh near the northern end of the Kullu Valley,at an altitude of 2,050 m in the Beas River Valley.It is a travellers paradise-lofty snow peaks,lush green valleys,fast flowing rivers,enchanting mountain lakes,beautiful temples monasteries,for relaxing sightseeing,trekking,mountaineering,fishing,para-gliding,skiing,ice-skating and golf.   It is located in the Kullu district,about 270 km north of the state capital ,Shimla.It has become a tourist attraction in recent years.Manali is named after the Hindu  lawgiver Manu.The word Manali is regarded as the changed name of "Manu-Alaya"which literally means the "abode of Manu".Manali is also often referred to as the "Valley of the Gods".The old Manali village has an ancient temple dedicated to sage Manu.

Climate
The climate in Manali is cool during winters,and moderately cool during summers.The temperature range between 4 degree c and  to 20 degree c over the year.The average temperature during summer is between 4 degree c and 15 degree c and in the winter -15 degree c.Snowfall often takes place between November and to early february.The weather in Manali is not stable.

Tranport
By Air
Bhuntar Airport is the nearest airport is at Bhuntar Town,situated on NH21 about 50 km south of manali and 10 km south of Kullu town.Bhuntar Airport is also known as Kullu-Manali Airport.Air India and some private aielines have regular flights to the airport.Chandigarh Airport is the nearest Internatinal Airport.

By Road
The road distance from chandigarh to Manali is 327km.and the total distance from Delhi to Manali is 592km.Buses on this route are available from all major terminals.





By Rail
By rail is not easily approachable.Chandigarh is the nearest broad gauge railheads is at 275km, pathankot 325km, and Kalka 310km.Joginder Nagar is the nearest narrow gauge railheads135km.







Tourists Attractions
Solang Valley is a side valley 14km northwest of Manali on the way to Rohtang Pass.It is provide great oppurtunities for summer and winter sports like parachuting,paragliding,skating etc.
Rohtang Pass is a high mountain pass that connects Manali to the Lahaul and also to ladakh region.Rohtang translates to "pile of corpses".Hidimba Devi Temple is an ancient temple made of mudwashed stone and carved wood .The temple is dedicated to Hidimba,wife of Bhima and mother of ghatotkacha.Pandoh Dam on the Beas river in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh.Bijli Mahadev temple is a sacred temple in himachali culture.Bhrigu Lake is also great major attraction for tourists.Great Himalayan National Park is home to various species of flora and fauna.Pin Valley National Park is a high altitude park.The park preserves endangered species like snow leopard.
